Learning Disability is an umbrella term that can describe many different types of specific learning disabilities/disorders.

It is diagnosed when there are specific deficits in an individual’s

ability to perceive or process information efficiently and

  • learning disability in reading, also known as Dyslexia
  • learning disability in mathematics, also known as Dyscalculia.

Basic reading problems occur when there is difficulty understanding the relationship between sounds, letters and words.

Problems in reading comprehension occur when there is an inability to grasp the meaning of words, phrases, and paragraphs.

Learning disabilities in math - dyscalculia

Dyscalculia is a specific learning disability where the child faces problems to remember basic facts about numbers, and is slow and inaccurate in mathematical tasks. Children with dyscalculia struggle with bigger number and smaller number concept and problems in abstract maths.

The symptoms may differ from one child to another.

Learning disabilities in writing - dysgraphia

Physical difficulty forming words and letters refers to writing disorder. Dysgraphia is a learning disability that affects writing abilities. It can manifest itself as difficulties with spelling, poor handwriting and trouble putting thoughts on paper because writing requires a complex set of motor and information processing skills, saying a student has dysgraphia is not sufficient.

What is ADHD?

A neurodevelopmental disorder that typically appears in early childhood, which makes it difficult for children to inhibit their spontaneous responses-responses that can involve everything from movement to speech to attentiveness.

ADHD is generally characterised by inappropriate levels of development in any of the Following areas: 

  • Inattention 
  • Hyperactivity
  • Impulsivity

Symptoms of ADHD

The primary symptoms of ADHD are broadly categorized under the categories of Inattention, Hyperactivity and Impulsivity such as:

  • Disorganization and problems prioritizing
  • Poor time management skills.
  • Problems focusing on a task.
  • Trouble multitasking.
  • Excessive activity or restlessness.
  • Poor planning.
  • Low frustration tolerance.
